CranioSacral Therapy
The craniosacral system is comprised of the central nervous system, the bone and membranes from head to sacrum and cerebrospinal fluid. By readapting the tissue around the brain and spinal cord and reinforcing the body’s innate capacity to self‐heal, CranioSacral therapy alleviates a host of conditions such as chronic pain, neck and back pain, TMJ, scoliosis, insomnia, migraine, depression, stress, Alzheimer’s, ADHD, stroke, PTSD, and autism , to name a few.
CranioSacral Therapy is a great boost for the immune system and is often used as a means of health maintenance. Clients attest to less pain, more mobility, less stress and less burden. Parents of autistic children claim a dramatic and improved difference in the sensory defensiveness of their child, in addition to new levels of tolerance, understanding and calm. PTSD sufferers regain much needed deep sleep, have a reduction in nightmares and start to have easier social interaction. Family members of Alzheimer’s patients notice improved conversational skills of their loved ones, as well as increased mental functioning and overall happiness.
Practitioners of this world-renowned method facilitate the release of restrictions in the craniosacral system. This improves the performance of the central nervous system, responsible for most functions of the body and mind. Freeing the tissue within and surrounding the craniosacral system enhances the production, distribution, flow and drainage of cerebrospinal fluid. This clear fluid found in the brain and spinal cord provides several key functions, among which the management of intracranial pressure and blood supply to the tissues; homeostasis; and detoxification. Additionally, its signals control stem cell regulation in the brain, altering brain function in health and disease. Improved flow of this fluid provides the body with the elements it needs to be at optimal performance and to effectively capitalize on its inherent capacity to rebuild, repair and regenerate itself.
CranioSacral Therapy is a light touch manual therapy. A session lasts about one hour. The work is done seated or on a massage table and the client remains dressed. Multi-hand sessions can also be performed by several (2-5) therapists at the same time, for particularly acute situations. Additionally, CranioSacral dolphin-assisted therapy is offered each summer in the Bahamas.
